The School
Located in Northeast Atlanta, Georgia, Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHM) is an Archdiocesan Catholic school that serves a diverse population of students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Established in 1958 as a parish school, IHM strives daily to follow its principles: Faith, Knowledge, Service and Integrity to form intelligent and compassionate citizens for the future.

Distinctions
IHM was named a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.

 

IHM is one of only 175 schools nationwide to receive the National Parent-Teacher Association and Parent Involvement School of Excellence Award.

 
Faculty and Staff
The school is comprised of 57 lay faculty and staff (29 teachers, 7 administrators, 4 full-time assistants, 7 part-time assistants, 1 counselor, 1 librarian, 1 full-time nurse, 1 Director of Faith Formation and 2 on campus priests.) All teachers meet the current standards established by the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Office of Catholic Schools.

 

All teachers are certified in the State of Georgia or have completed educational training and are in the process of receiving state licensing. The faculty has an average of 13 years teaching experience and 70 percent of teachers hold advanced degrees. Teachers are able to ensure a superior learning environment with an average class size of 24 students in Kindergarten, 26 students in first grade, 28 students in grades 2-5 and 30 students in grades 6-8.

 
The Student Body
IHM enrolls approximately 500 students.·Cultural diversity represents 26% of the student body. 82% of the student population is Catholic, representing approximately·25 different parishes. IHM follows a policy of open admission in regard to sex, color and national origin. Students are admitted on basis of screening test, previous school records, and a personal interview. Financial Aid is available.
 
Student Activities
Art Club, Band, Chorus, Basketball, Volleyball, Cub, Boy and· Girl Scouts, Chess Club, Drama, Community Service Opportunities (Journey), Safety Patrol, Student Council and National Junior Honor Society, Math Team, Lego Robotic Team. In addition, the school offers before and after school activities program.
 
Foreign Language
Spanish is offered from Kindergarten to eighth grade.
