Quad A

quada1Quad A is an advisory program for our middle school students. It is a way for each middle school student to have an adult advisor. Each week the advisors meet with their Quad A’s which consist of the advisor and a group of 10 students. The advisor may change from year to year but the group of students may stay the same throughout the sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

Why have an advisory program?

Immaculate Heart of Mary’s middle school strives to help the students develop as active members of society. The students are encouraged to become self advocates. They are taught how to solve problems, lead a conference, and work together. Since each teacher sees 60-120 students each day, it is important to divide the students into small groups. A group of 10-12 students enables the advisor a chance to discuss problems as well as successes and be an advocate for the students.

What are the goals of Quad A?
  • Provide an academic, emotional, and social safety net for each middle school student.
  • Build a community of trust and understanding among the group.
  • Each advisor will serve as a “student advocate” for their students.
  • Improve communication skills through small group situations.
  • Provide students with an environment to deal with teen issues.
  • Help students see their own responsibility in their academic and social success.
