Here at IHM we use Accelerated Reader Enterprise from Renaissance Place. When a child comes to school to take an AR quiz, they have access to over 150,000 quizzes. The bonus of this feature is that the library or classroom does not have to have the book that a child might be reading. It can be one from his public library or home library. Children take AR tests during their library time, before school, during school, recess, after school, and in their classrooms. Students can also take vocabulary tests. This test pulls several words from the book they have read or had read to them and tests the students on the understanding of certain words. In addition to Accelerated Reader, we also have Star Reading. This program is used by our resource teachers to place students at the beginning of the school year. Every student is tested on Star Reading and then again toward the end of the school year to see what progress the student has made. Another feature of Renaissance Place is parents now have access to Home Connect. Parents can view which quizzes their children have taken and what their quiz results were. In addition, parents can go to AR BookFinder to see which books are included in the AR program. |
